Pittsburgh, PA.....Harry Bridges, head of the International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union, pictured when he addressed the convention of the Committee for Industrial Organization, following adoption of a new name, "Congress of Industrial Organizations", and adoption of a resolution of keeping its industrial aims in making any possible peace with the American Federation of Labor, the proposed constitutional changes came up. Bridges, backed by Mervyn Rathborne, Joseph Curran, so-called left wing delegates, sought inclusion in the constitution of a phrase that would open membership in the CIO to all, regardless of "political beliefs".
