Folder: S.F. Parks-Golden Gate-Monastery Fire.
Newscopy: "This is the way the 11th Century Spanish monastery, given to the city by William Randolph Hearst in 1941, looked today after being hit by fire for the fifth time. Firemen said the blaze, so intense it burned all night and shattered many of the huge stones, was 'carefully planned' by being set among crated remains not damaged by previous fires. The last one, on Dec. 13, severly chared 40 pct. of the crated stones, which are behind the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park. Col. Ian MacAlpine, assistant director of the deYoung Museum, said he hoped at least 'a part' might be rebuiilt, but said a complete inventory is necessary first.".
