Newscopy: "BEFORE THE DAWN'S EARLY LIGHT--San Francisco's first Memorial Day service was held at midnight before Lotta's Fountain, Third and Market streets. Mrs. Rose Bunch, widow of The Examiner city editor for whom Frederick G. Bunch Newspapermen's Post American Legion, is named, placed a wreath of red poppies on the fountain. Joining in the ceremony were units of the Sixth Army, police and fire department members, and officers of the Legion post."
