Printed on back: "The bronze for the plaque, commemorating the 100 officers and men of the heavy cruiser USS San Francisco who gave their lives in the crucial Guadalcanal battle, was poured today in a simple ceremony at the Greenberg and Sons Foundry, 746 Folsom St. The plaque, when finished, will be placed on the memorial, honoring the officers and men, living and dead of the USS San Francisco. The memorial, to be dedicated November 12 (1950) at Land's End is to be an observation platform at the entrance to the Golden Gate, formed from the wings of the flag bridge of the San Francisco The bridge wings, complete to running lights and with untouched battle damage, embedded in a concrete foundation in their shipboard form.".
