Newscopy: "AT LOWELL THE GIRLS JOINED A BOYCOTT AGAINST THE CAFETERIA--Another strike may be in bag at Lowell High School on Monday. There was one Friday, but no student will be sacked, Principal J. A Perino announced. It was sort of a bring-your-own-strike affair, and was all very cheerful. The strike was against the school's cafeteria because profits from its soft drink machine go to the citywide cafeteria fund, and not into the student-body treasury, as strikers demanded. The students want the revenue for better football equipment, improved dances and to help a former student now with the Peace Corps in Africa. So most of them boycotted the cafeteria and brought their own lunches. Usually the cafeteria serves about 700 students but Friday only about 20 ate there, students reported. Perino said it was all an indication of 'springtime exuberance'."
