Charlie has to keep his chorus master on the payroll because his girls are stolen, either by love-sick swains with marriage licenses in their pockets, or by Eastern night clubs with contracts... In getting his chorus together, Charlie had to make formal calls on the girls' parents to obtain permission for them to dance.
