Newscopy: "FAMED HOTEL CLOSES DOORS--As well known south of Market-st as any of its more uppity brethren on the other side of the slot, the New York House ended its existence as a hotel today. The Health and Fire Departments closed it as a menace, both to public health and safety. Standard room fee, 35c a night, enabled many citizens to escape the fog, including Frank Joseph Clancey, resident for 18 years, shown leaving the hotel for the last time."
