Folder: S.F. Streets-Vermont.
Newscopy: "Most san Franciscans are familiar wit the fact that that this city has the crookedest street in the world--Lombard between Leavenworth and Hyde--but did you know that another local street runs Lombard a close second? It's a fact, and here are the pictures to prove it. Top picture shows the block on Lombard-st, which has eight turns on a 16.1 per cent grade. Lower picture shows the second crookedest street in town--Vermont, between McKinley sq and 22nd-st. This block on Vermont is on a 14.3 grade and has five full turns and two half turns (one at the top, on at the bottom of the grade). Vermont originally was steeper than the Lombard block, but because Vermont is wider (80 feet against 70 for Lombard), engineers were able to pave it on less of a grade."
