Newscopy: "Events galore are planned to herald the achievements of 50 years of service - from even before the day in 1912 when 'Sunny Jim' Rolph, then newly elected mayor, 'gunned' the first city-owned streetcar down Geary st. They'll remind a new generation of Miss Muni's first-born - the 5c fare, later to become a towering political issue... the nickel fare that always was good for votes. Mrs. Klussmann, in a recent address, called the celebration a 'deserved salute... the Muni's 15c fare with transfer privileges is one of the biggest bargains anywhere.' This 1905 scene shows nickel riders on cable cars and horsecars on Market st. in front of Ferry Building. Conductors cried 'All the way out Market.'".
