Folder: S.F. Streets-Market-1964.
Newscopy: "The sidewalk along the north side of Market Street, just a few feet from the Embarcadero, has been in bad condition. Every year during the rainy season, lakes would form (as at left, above), so deep that few would try to walk there. But traffic is heavy as Marin County commuters go to and from their buses at the Ferry Building. In answer to a number of complaints, 'The Angry Man' began an investigation. He learned that the property adjoining is owned by the Redevelopment Agency and it, therefore, is responsible for the sidewalk. At 11:05 Thursday of last week, he called M. Justin Herman, RA boss. Herman promised a prompt answer. At 11:20 he called back. Barricades would be up within 30 minutes and in less than 24 hours the sidewalk would be fixed. Friday morning, 'The Angry Man' took a look. The sidewalk was fixed (as at right here). 'The Angry Man' tips his hatless head to M. Justin herman and his men. This is really the way to run a city agency.".
