The Chinese community is preparing plans to join the city of San Francisco in the ground-breaking ceremony at Portsmouth Plaza which will start the construction of the 3.2 million underground garage. A 'Sze-Tse' (Chinese buddha Lion) was made in Hong Kong and imported by the Portsmouth Plaza Parking Corp. especially for this occasion. An ancient religious ceremony, 'Blessing the Lion' or giving life to the beast must be held before the Lion can be activated for performance. This traditional rite will take place Sat. mar. 19th 12 Noon in front of the main altar at the Kong Chow Temple 520 Pine Street. This is the second time that this ceremony has ever been held in the U.S. and it is open to the public.".
