Newscopy: "PORTRAIT IN BRONZE--These Navy metallurgists are preparing to photograph the interior of the ship's screw in the background. The picture will be analyzed, not for beauty but for dangerous flaws in the bronze casting. Joseph Jones (left) has marked off the suspected area. Steve Shutt (center) is using a magnetic rod to lift a $20,000 radium capsule from its lead-lined carrying case. Chester Barnes (right) has opened the case. The radium is placed back of the suspected flaw area; an X-ray sensitive plate is placed over it. Workers are guarded by lead sheets to reduce scattering of the rays, and the curious are kept away by ropes. It's a daily scene at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard."
