Printed on back of duplicate: "Kearny central office a few days after the 1906 fire. A make-shift switchboard was installed in the fire-gutted building on Bush Street as soon as workmen could enter the structure. With all equipment in the office destroyed, operators worked their positions seated on boxes and barrels until permanent equipment could be obtained."
