Newscopy: "A PAGE FROM HISTORY IS CLOSED--The tradition-steeped 'Monkey Block,' at 629 Montgomery street, which survived the 1906 earthquake and fire, bent before the might of wreckers today as demolition of the four-story brick building got under way. Called 'Halleck's Folly' when it was built in 1853 by Henry Wager Halleck, the building has for more than a century been in the limelight of the city's history. Wreckers estimate it will take six weeks to level the structure - then it will become a parking lot."
