On back: "IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Roos Sports Shop. Copy to all papers, Wilkin. His palet (sic), the natural woods from forty-eight species of trees collected from the remote corners of the world, J. Frank Porter, young Pacific Coast artist recently completed what is claimed to be the largest pictorial mural in natural wood inlay on record, to cover the back wall of the new Roos Sports Shop, which is to be opened officially Tuesday. One of the oldest though least known art vehicles, wood inlay achieves its effects somewhat after the manner of mosaic stone work, but is capable of much greater realism and pictorial accuracy than the tile. The scene depicts an early day cobbler's shop, with two cobblers working over lasts, with benches, fireplace, leaded windows and typical objects worked into the composition...".
On back (continued): "The various woods, in their natural colors ranging from vivid purples, through reds, yellows, and browns were employed without pigments or dyes of any kind being added, and take full advantage of the natural graining and shade variation of the individual pieces to achieve the complete illusion of three dimensional realism.".
