Newscopy: "Washington Packing Corp.'s new plant at 2 Rankin st. was virtually at a standstill today. Only five of its 70 employes puttered around the cannery, one of the finest and most modern of its kind in the industry when it suspended its tuna packing operations last April 4. Plant supervisor Thomas N. Miller showed off retorts, or high-pressure cookers in which the canned tuna is put and re-cooked at 242 degrees for 77 minutes, in excess of a state-required 240 degrees for 75 minutes. Miller is a leading man in the industry and for the past five years has been one of six industry members on a state fisheries technical advisory committee appointed by Merrill.".
