Folder: Portraits-Bufano, Beniamino-1945-46.
Newscopy: "His favorite city, San Francisco, and Beniamino (Benny) Bufano clashed again today. The new encounter, according to his public relations counselor, has left Benny, sculptor, city art commissioner and outspoken protagonist on matters civic and artistic, in the doldrums. The issue again was his art. Specifically, his granite statue of 'Light' and his plaster cast statues of 'Peace' and 'Mother Earth' and St. Francis - the one, who some one has said, looks as though he was being held up with an invisible gun between his ribs. 'SICK AT HEART' - While Benny reportedly was too sick at heart to talk about it, his 'mouthpiece,' Sol Silverman, disclosed new vandalism had been committed against the statues which have been almost abandoned in a broken-down shed in Sutro Forest."
