'Tex' Thompson, life term convicts who survived the bloody riots at Alcatraz Prison in 1946, were sentenced June 29, 1948, to be executed in the lethal gas chamber at San Quentin Sept. 24 for their part in the escape attempt. A jury convicted the two men on charge of murder on a government reservation after a two-day riot in which two guards and three convicts were slain.
