Newscopy: "Paul M. Searls, world's champion log bucker, puts his cross-cut saw to one of the Golden Gate Bridge cables. Searls helped to open the Golden Gate Bridge on May 26, 1937, when he defeated the Redwood Empire log-bucking champion by sawing through a 32 inch log in 1 minute and 26 and 2-5ths seconds. A bronze plague memorializing the event still stands at the bridge and Searls is visiting the scene of his exploit. Searls is employed by the Weyerhauser Timber company and lives at Toutle, Washington."
