Folder: S.F. Bridges-Bay-Construction-Caissons.
Newscopy (1936 Nov. 11): "Epochal opening of the bay bridge recalls the colossal aspects of its construction. This caisson was one of the largest in engineering history. It formed the base for the central bay anchorage which holds the cables for the two western suspension spans. Its mass stands 502 feet high and penetrates the bay bottom for a depth of 220 feet. Each of the circular cells was capped and the great bulk was sealed."
