On back: "This photograph shows in the foreground a half mile of the 4-1/2 mile San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, and in the background the one-mile Golden Gate Bridge, which are ending the isolation of California's second city--San Francisco. In the foreground is the double-deck 1400-foot cantilever span which traveler derricks on either side of the gap are erecting as they build out toward the middle. The steel to fill this gap will be hoisted girder by girder and pinned into position by intrepid steel workers who perform their labor from 200 to 380 feet above the water on this structure.".
