On back: "The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, the world's longest, is a monument to the combined engineering genius and mechanical skill of all the ages. Construction commenced July 9, 1933, and the bridge was opened to vehicular traffic November 12, 1936. The total estimated cost, including rail facilities, amounted to $77,200,000 - at the time the greatest amount of funds ever expended for a single structure. The total length of the bridge from the San Francisco terminal to the Oakland terminal, end to end of approaches, is eight and one-quarter miles; the bridge proper, including island crossing, is approximately four and one-half miles long. The foundations are the deepest under water that have ever been constructed. The mammoth link ties the San Francisco Peninsula to the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay, passing through the world's largest vehicular tunnel on rocky Yerba Buena Island."
