Folder: S.F. Libraries-SFPL-Main-Sutro Library.
Newscopy: "The Sutro Library is settled in its handsome now home on the University of San Francisco campus, and will be open to the public Sept. 15. The staff held a press preview yesterday to show how much better the some 100,000 volumes are housed than they were in the basement of the main public library. The collection, including ancient Hebrew scrolls, folios of Shakespeare's works and a wide variety of historical material, was given the state of California in 1913 by heirs of former Mayor Adolph Sutro. It was moved to USF when the university offered space beneath USF's own Gleeson Memorial Library. It will operate as a branch of the State Library on a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily schedule.".
