Folder: Portraits-Rea, Robert.
Newscopy: "In 1880 when San Francisco's public library was just a couple of rooms in the old City Hall, a nimble, bright-eyed youngster of 13 was scampering around the stacks in an after-school job as page boy. It was a job he never relinquished. Today, after 56 years of service to the city, the youngster, now Mr. Chips of the Civic Center, is preparing to retire. That youngster of 1889 whose step has slowed but whose countenance still beams cheerily, is Robert Rea, chief city librarian. Having built up San Francisco's library to a point where it is nationally famous, Mr. Rea has decided to take a long rest in the country 'where I can take a lot of books and read what I've made the public read all these years.'".
