Oversize. Folder: Strikes -- 1934 -- Violence.
Caption from newspaper: "Graphic photo, taken at great peril by a staff cameraman, was snapped under a barrage of bricks as the line of strikers, pictured, advanced upon police from the slopes of Rincon Hill. Throughout the lines shown above you may see husky stevedores and seamen's arms as they hurl heavy bricks into the police lines. When the picketers and the police actually met hand-to-hand at First and Harrison streets, police revolvers were whipped out and accompanied by fire of riot guns, sent a stream of lead pouring into the strikers. Eight were taken to hospitals with bullet wounds, others struck by tear bombs."
