HIRING HALLS AGAIN ISSUE IN THREATENED STRIKE - Longshoremen's hiring halls -- principal cause of the maritime and general strike in San Francisco in 1934 -- are again an issue as I. L. A. awards with shipowners terminate Oct. 1 and talk of a waterfront strike is again heard on the Pacific Coast. This photo shows an interior of the San Francisco hiring hall with men waiting beneath a call board. In negotiations with employers, longshoremen have sought to retain complete control of the halls, the employers to gain control or abolish the halls. (38) 9-25-36".
