Newscopy: "Two C. I. O. Warehouse Union pickets were jailed today following a clash among pickets, clerks and police at the Coffin Redington Wholesale Drug Co. plant at 301 Folsom-st. Jack Hobby, 29, of Brisbane, was charged with battery, and Howard Dedrick, 32, of Marin City, was charged with disturbing the peace. The arrests followed a row between Mr. Hobby and Captain Leo Tackney of Southern Station when police called in after an earlier scuffle escorted nine office workers into the plant. NO BLOWS PASS. Picket leaders said they would prefer battery charges against Captain Hackney. No fisticuffs were reported, but claims that two or three persons were kicked came from the confused scene..."
Newscopy (continued): "A company spokesman said none of the 15 workers who crashed the picket line, including two girl confidential secretaries, were doing warehouse work. But pickets claimed the office employes were working stock, some of them wearing jeans into the plant. They also charged that the office workers had 'sneaked' some merchandise out at night. Company officials reported that the mass picket line was thrown around the plant Sept. 2. Only two policemen have been on duty there up until today, they added. But when six employes trying to get in this morning were roughed up by pickets, police reinforcements were called." .
