Newscopy: "Here is a crowd of commuters risking their lives to catch their trains at Fourth-st. They have disembarked from the Fourth-st bus at Brannan, walked, or run, a block along Fourth-st to Townsend, crossed in the dense traffic of Townsend-st to the Southern Pacific tracks, and there wormed their way through and around trains to reach their particular train home. In the picture, the train at the right is moving and a commuter, whose elbow shows on the platform, has caught it on the fly. The others have climbed through the train standing in the shed at the extreme left in order to reach trains further over. Some of them, no doubt, have missed the train just pulling out. The reason they risk the hazard of the tracks at Fourth-st is that they fear, if they ride around to the station by remaining on the bus in its circuitous passage on Brannan and Third-sts, they will get caught in the Third-st traffic and miss their trains."
