Newscopy: "Jeanie Landles Kortum, 17 months, mailed her first letter yesterday. Jeanie, who is named after the 1425-ton clipper ship Jeanie Landles, didn't send her letter to Santa Claus as you might think. She mailed it to San Francisco to appeal for a contribution to be used in the restoration of the four-masted Pacific Queen. Several thousand similar letters also went into the mail, but Jeanie had the distinction of mailing the first because her daddy is director of the Maritime Museum, owner of the vessel that is destined to become a floating museum of California maritime history. Now, to finance high cost items such as rigging, shrouds and stays, the museum is selling 'Seafarer' memberships at $5 and 'Quarterdeck' memberships at $10. 'Seafarers' will be entitled to visit the ship and museum with one guest for one year after the Pacific Queen is opened at Pier 43. 'Quarterdeck' cards will allow a member access to the museum at all times. Contributions can be mailed to the Maritime Museum Membership Fund, c/o Bank of America, 485 California-st, S. F. 4."
