On back: "September 27th, 1956. CALL BULLETIN. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE! FROM: FRANK A. CLARVOE, JR. SECRETARY, LIBRARY COMMISSION. The Ortega Branch Library, located in the Sunset Community Center at Ortega and 38th Avenue, will be formally dedicated Wednesday, October 3, 1956 at 3:30 p.m. The dedicatory ceremonies will feature an address by Mayor George Christopher, following which the Branch will be open for inspection by the public. Designed to harmonize with the schools in the Center, the Ortega Library building also includes facilities for recreation activities in conjunction with the adjoining playground. These facilities are supervised by the Recreation-Park Department. Built at a cost of just under $160,000, this new library extension follows the new precepts of post-war library architecture which started with the Parkside Branch Library and continued with the Marina Branch Library. Located to serve over 25,000 residents of the Outer Sunset and Parkside districts, the Ortega Branch brings to twenty-four the number of public library extensions serving the people of San Francisco. This is in addition to the Main Library in Civic Center. The Accompanying photograph shows the east end of the Library with the main entrance to the building between the two birch pillars at the left."
