Folder: S.F. Parks-Union Square-1940's
Newscopy: "Post-st from Stockton-st. Right view shows the 'New Look' after dark, with the Westinghouse vapor lamps turned on. Inset is one of the 'silver footballs' which rout the shadows. Utilities Mgr. James H. Turner says the new type street lighting will be installed in other sections of the city later. Cost of the Union Square 'New Look' was 'less than $10,000,' including the 28-foot standards on which the 'silver footballs' are mounted. San Francisco is the first major city to install the new lights."
