Folder: S.F. Ships-Ferryboats-Bay City
Newscopy: "INTO ITS SLIP at Davies Street Wharf in San Francisco comes the ferry boat "Alameda" in this picture taken sometime prior to 1872. Davies Street Wharf was the first San Francisco Ferry Terminal. Ferry boats began making regular landings there in 1863. The "Alameda" met the first train to reach San Francisco Bay over the through-transcontinental route on September 6, 1869. It is not unlikely that this picture was taken in honor of that occasion."
