Folder: S.F. Ships-Ferryboats-Newark
Written on back: "This the "Newark" as she originally appeared when operating between Newark and San Francisco. She was the fastest ferry boat on the Bay at the time. Built to connect with the South Pac. Coast R.R. at Newark, before being extended to Alameda. Taken about 1876. She had 2 tracks and carried freight cars across the Bay. Later-Circa 1906 still had the tracks and heavy ropes were laid in the flange places. I rode her many times between San Francisco and Alameda pier - 1906."
