Newscopy: "Search for a hit-run driver, who killed Joseph (Joe the Beer Man) Rumen (above) early today, centers around a slender clue--the hub cap being held by Policeman G. J. Steigler, Rumen met death when the speeding automobile hurtled into him as he got out of his jitney after parking it in a line on Mission St., at Lawrence Ave. The hub cap was knocked off the fleeing car when it sideswiped the jitney of Louis Ponti, 425 Hillside Dr., Daly City, who was parked immediately in front of Rumen. "I had my hand on the door handle, just about to get out and say 'Good morning' to Joe when I heard the crash." Ponti told police. "If I had stepped out of my car a moment earlier, I would have been killed, too."
