Newscopy: "ARMENIAN 'DEATH MARCH'--Members of the Armenian community in the Bay Area marched today from the Civic Center to Grace Cathedral to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the slaughter of Armenians in Turkey. They stood in silent vigil in the shadow of City Hall, then walked to the cathedral on Nob Hill where parish members of Armenian churches gathered to hold a solemn requiem mass. Archbishop Joseph T. McGucken asked Catholics to offer prayers Sunday 'in memory of the two million Armenians who were massacred by the Turks 50 years ago.' 'The Turkish slaughter of the Armenian people was the first act of genocide of the 20th Century, a deliberate, cold-blooded attempt to wipe out a whole nation,' said the American Armenian Student Association of the Bay Area. On the march to Grace Cathedral in today's 50th anniversary observance are Jay Margosian, Susan Vartanian, Vivian Saatjian and Aram Bassenian."
