San Francisco in Grip of Strike of Ship Workers--This photograph shows an early morning scene on the Embarcadero, at Clay street, where is located headquarters and the hiring halls of some of the maritime unions which have joined the strike for union control of hiring halls and cash overtime. The scene shows striking seamen as they began to congregate after receiving the signal to stop work. Word of the strike followed a meeting of the Maritime Federation of the Pacific in the offices of the Master, Mates and Pilots' Union at No. 9 Main street, directly opposite the Waterfront Employers' Association, which was waging a bitter fight against their demands.
