Written on back: "YESTERDAY (SUNDAY) SAN FRANCISCO BEGAN CONTRUCTION OF THE WORLD'S LARGEST THERMOMETER--A four foot stripe of white paint running up the middle of Market Street from the Ferry Building. It will record the progress of her $3,820,000 Community Chest appeal. The stripe will extend to Van Ness Avenue when the goal is reached. Painting in the ten foot percentage numerals and the mercury was begun yesterday by the Naval Reserve Seabees with the help of Campaign Chairman Thomas G. McGuire.
