Newscopy: GRADUATION DAY was marked this morning at the University of california's memorial Stadium (above) as 5699 students received diplomas or certificates. Among those graduating was Edmund G. Brown Jr., shown in the photo at right with his father, the governor (center), and with UC's President Clark Kerr. Gov. Brown, in a five minute address, spoke in behalf of academic freedom--'There's a tendency of too mucany Americans to shut off debate'--but he was unaware that the university had, earlier today, barred from campus SLATE, a liberal political group active in the campaign to abolish the House un-American activities committee."
