Brown--lost the state's presidential primary popularity contest to Republican Vice President Nixon today. Nixon wasn't competing on the same ballot withthe Democrats. But a heavy GOP turnout helped him outpoll the Democratic governor in spite of the fact. California has 1,156,000 more Democrats than Republicans."
