Newscopy: "PLACARD-CARRYING pickets met Governor Brown yesterday as he arrived at the State Building in Los Angeles. The group of about 15 demanded that he halt pending executions at San Quentin Prison. Brown told the group he doesn't have such authority. 'You ask me to put myself above the law,' he said. 'This is a government law, and I do not have the power to overrule the judiciary.' He invited the pickets to confer later with him in his office--Associated Press Photo."
