Box P710 -- Folder: Tilden, A-Z
Newscopy: "IT'S EASY TO 'WALK ON THE WATER' WITH THIS CONTRAPTION. Miss Velma Tilden, of San Francisco, is shown attempting to cross San Francisco Bay in 'Sheldon's Water Walker'. Adverse tides forded her to quit after two hours. The 'Walker', invented by A.N. Sheldon, of Ventura, Calif., is built of sheet metal and consists of two pontoons sliding in a frame work. Hinged metal fins fold back and slip thru the water as a pontoon is pushed forward by the walker's foot. Then they open out and resist the water. A rudder, steering post and tiller enable the odd craft to be guided, while a cracker box provides a seat for the wearied aqua-pedestrian."
