Newscopy: "FONTANA, CALIF. -- The Pacific Coast's first iron and steel mill starts production at Fontana, Calif., just eight months after ground was broken on Henry J. Kaiser's $83,000,000 project. The first 1200 ton blast furnace, the 'Bess' named for Mrs. Henry J. Kaiser, was blown in and first pig iron on way to production. Photo #1 shows: a section of 35 miles of rail lines winding over the 1500 acres of the plant-site. When the mill is underway, large cars will bring in raw material to supply the blast furnace from Western coal and iron ore fields."
