Box P554 -- Folder: Poole, Cecil
Newscopy: "President Kennedy today formally announced in Washington that Cecil F. Poole, Governor Brown's 47-year-old clemency secretary, is his choice to become U. S. attorney for Northern California. Poole, an active Democrat, had been recommended for the post by Atty. Gen. Robert Kennedy, the President's brother. The appointment will have to be approved by the Senate judiciary comittee. If confirmed, Poole would be the first Negro to hold such a post in the continental United States. He headed the Office of Prics Administration's appeals unit after the war, and in 1949 became an assistant district attorney under Brown, then district attorney here. Poole and his wive are living now in Sacramento with their two daughters. His headquarters in the new $18,000-a-year post will be in San Francisco."
