Donor description: Unknown Russian man photographed outside the Europa Bakery at Fillmore and McAllister in 1959. This was a photo made for a school assignment. Donor attended California School of Fine Arts, now San Francisco Art Institute. Donor returned to give the subject a print but he had been removed to Napa for psychiatric treatment. Subject frequented bakery because the people working there spoke Russian. Europa Bakery moved later to Geary Boulevard. Before disappearing altogether. Russian subject posed saying "Vee vish you goot healtz."
