Newscopy: Devastation wrought by 500,000 blaze on Treasure Island. Blackened wreckage litters area devastated by fire on Treasure Island yesterday afternoon. A portion of the razed area is shown in this photo which was made this morning, looking north. All available equipment for fire fighting was sent from the East Bay and from San Francisco to supplement equipment on the island in combatting the blaze which raged for more that three hours. According to Fire Chief Albert J. Sullivan, fire covered the largest area of any fire here since the 1906 fire. The towering loud of smoke rising from the blaze was visible for miles.--April 11, 1947.
