Newscopy: "Conductor Told To Pay, or Else. Judge Orders Support For 12 Year Old Son of Pair. Harry L. Bartlett, 29, streetcar conductor of 46 Glenn avenue, Oakland, must pay $25 each month for the support of his 12-year daughter, Evelyn, or else-- That's what Municipal Judge Thomas F. Pendergast ruled today after hearing charges of failure to provide preferred by Bartlett's divorced wife, Mrs. Mildred Tillman, 1516 Dolores street. What the "or else" would be the judge didn't say, but Bartlett was given sixty days suspended sentence and given six months probation, with orders to pay up on earlier court orders. Mrs. Tillman testified she was divorced in 1936 after Bartlett had vanished. Bartlett countered by declaring his wife left him nine years ago and had refused to let him see his daughter."
