Folder: S.F. Streets-Lombard-1940's.
Newscopy: "This picture, looking east down Lombard street from Broderick, shows how the avenue will be changed from this narrow, cramped thoroughfare to a wide, easy-moving city highway connecting the Golden Gate bridge and the Bayshore highway. Houses on the right side of the street are being moved back to widen the street from its present 68 feet 9 inches to 99 feet, including sidewalks. The perspective of this photo makes the lines showing the old and new width look distorted, but a glance at the houses on the right shows: (A) The steps of this house will have to be removed to make room for the street widening; (B) this building already has been set back from the street, and (C) this house is being wrecked."
