Lee Raymond was born and raised in Southern California and then lived in San Francisco. Raymond was an Empress of the Imperial Court, a fashion designer, and a drag performer in San Francisco, circa 1974-1979. Raymond owned a fashion boutique called R.V.H. Ltd. with Richard Hayward. As a drag performer, Raymond used the stage name Flame.

Photos in the album document 1972 Tricycle Race in front of The Mint on Market Street, the Renaissance Faire in 1973, Dames at Sea performance, Empress competition, Gay Community Awards at California Hall in December 1973 (p. 99), 1974 Tricycle Race in front of Club Dori, 1974 Gay Freedom Day, Grand Duchess II competition and Grand Duchess Coronation in the Crystal Room of the Bellevue Hotel, Beaux Arts Ball at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. There are many snapshots of Raymond posing and dressed in drag as well as city views and court life. Loose photos at the end of the album include Mr. Cowboy and Miss Cowgirl of San Francisco competition at the S.I.R. Center (July 1974); an event at Bimbo's 365 circa 1973; and other costumed events with contests.
