All requests for permission to publish from photographs must be submitted in writing to the Photo Curator. Permission for publication is given on behalf of the San Francisco Public Library as the owner of the physical items.
Shades of Western Addition, Shades of San Francisco Donor description: Family's hotel, Aki Hotel at 1651 Post Street at Laguna. Date unknown. Not public bathhouse at bottom. Bathes were rare at this time in private residences. FBI stormed hotel on December 7, 1941 (first day of war with Japan) arresting donor's father. He was the first Japanese immigrant arrested and appeared on front page of paper (San Francisco Chronicle, December 7th or 8th 1941). FBI locked everyone inside and prevented people entering before arresting Ichiro. He was a very prominent civic leader in Japantown.
