Newscopy (Jan. 23, 1947): "HUNTERS PT.--Above is an aerial view of San Francisco naval shipyard, at Hunters Point which, according to report from Washington, has been named as main naval base for San Francisco Bay area. Secretary of the Navy yesterday reportedly issued such an order, effective as of February 18. The Mare Island Navy Yard on that date will become a subsidiary base under the navy's reorganization program.".
